March Gals Becoming Meetup
March 31, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$10.00The CBR Gals Network presents our eighth book club event in partnership with Queenies Kingston. Gals, Becoming is a feminist book club that provides a safe space for gals to grow, learn, share ideas and become fuller versions of themselves. Join us over nibbles and drinks for thoughtful conversation, introspection and laughs with some like-minded gals.
Our March pick is Aileen Moreton Robinson’s 20th anniversary edition of Talkin’ Up to the White Woman. A compelling analysis of the whiteness of Australian feminism and its effects on Indigenous women from an Indigenous academic’s standpoint (and a Goenpul woman). Persuasive and engaging, this book is a necessary argument for the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in the teachings and practices that impact on Australian society. This new edition proves the continued relevance of this classic work as a critique of the whiteness of western feminism.
The cost of this event covers food. Drinks will be available for purchase.
Join us for our “Gals, Becoming” book club meetup at Queenies Kingston from 6 to 8 PM.
This event is brought to you by CBR Gals in partnership with Queenies Kingston

FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? All ages are welcome to attend. Our age ranges typically from 19 – 65. Must be 18+ to drink alcoholic beverages.
What are the conditions of the “Gals, Becoming” Book Club?
Membership and is free, but each event costs $10 to cover the cost of nibbles. Additionally, becoming a member is a monthly commitment. To become a member, attendees must:
- Attend three consecutive monthly meetings, to be held on the last Thursday of each month at a central location.
- Note: After becoming a member, attendance is required at two of every three meetings. We think it’s important for gals to consistently attend meetings in order to form close relationships with other members.
- Come to each meeting well-versed in the chosen book. Gals can “read” the book in whatever format you want, just come ready to chat about the book.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is plenty of parking but we recommend rideshare or carpool!
