About this event

Join us on the 4th of March from 6-9pm for an interactive evening of networking, panels, and keynote speeches, hosted at ANU Kambri aMBUSH Gallery. We’ll have a rich discussion surrounding what systemic, structural and social change needs to occur to make ALL women feel safe in our communities, particularly those that are young, immigrant, BIPOC, gender-diverse, or part of other marginalised groups.

Sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in public spaces, both in urban and rural settings, are an everyday occurrence for women and girls in Australia and every country in the world.

This reality reduces women’s and girls’ freedom of movement. It reduces their ability to participate in school, work, and public life. It limits their access to essential services and their enjoyment of cultural and recreational activities, and negatively impacts their health and well-being.

Although domestic and workplace violence is now widely recognized as a human rights violation, sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women and girls in public spaces are often neglected, with few laws or policies in place to prevent and address it.

Three speakers in areas of Respectful Relationships, Girls Leadership, and Domestic Violence Prevention will present keynote speeches discussing tools to overcome potential stress and health setbacks, followed by an open panel, where we want to provide women and nonbinary people with  the tools and information to be support systems and advocates to improve safety outcomes.

You will hear from Franchesca Isla, who has completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a major in Counselling studies at the University of Canberra, and a Master of Social Work at the University of South Australia. Franchesca has worked for Australia’s leading bullying prevention charity, Bully Zero, and has experience working in drug addition and domestic violence prevention.

The recommended ticket cost will cover nibbles and a glass of wine following the event, while we mingle in classic CBR Gals style. Complimentary tickets are available for all university students. Use code UNI at checkout. Terms apply.

Any money donated beyond the recommended ticket price will go to the Domestic Violence Crisis Service ACT, further improving access to critical resources.
