Canberra WorkLeisure Clothes Swap
June 12, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
‘The Canberra WorkLeisure Clothes Swap’ will see Canberrans gathering in a local call to disrupt consumption in a fashion industry that still values quantity over quality. The deliberate act of swapping clothes encourages everyone to take a closer look at the clothes in their wardrobes. All are welcome—we are delighted to team up with Alpha, Evie Kay, Rosella Street, Renee from Flow Forage Grow, and Sound Canberra for this sustainable, community initiative!

Combining an invigorating refreshment of our wardrobes with roundtable discussions with thought leaders and provocateurs, this event will cover a range of issues from #WhoMadeMyClothes to how to care for your clothes and a closer dive into the materials, dyes, plastics, microfibres and chemicals by asking what’s in my clothes? This event will launch the online clothes swap community of The CBR Gals Network on Rosella Street!
For anyone who considers herself an activist: this event is for you! By reducing the need to buy new and donating to Communities@Work, refresh your wardrobe in a meaningful way.
When: 12 June

- What NOT to bring:Â swimwear, underwear, pyjamas, nightwear. We have a strict, discretionary vetting process to ensure all items are high quality.Â
What are the community-based benefits of a clothing swap? Besides nailing some gorgeous pre-loved pieces to invigorate your wardrobe, clothes swaps are a fundamental way to curate a sustainable wardrobe. In 2017, ABC TV + iview’s War on Waste series reported that we throw out 6000 kilos of fashion textile waste to landfill every 10 minutes!Â
At the end of each season clothing swap, we donate all leftover items to Communities@Work: a resilient and socially inclusive community that cares for the well-being of all. More specifically, we donate corporate-style items for the ‘Care and Share’, a program which provides women in need with free clothing, shoes, and accessories for job interviews, work experience, or other special events.
