The CBR Gals Network presents the Gals Evolving bookclub at Queenies Kingston. Gals Evolving is a feminist book club that provides a safe space for gals to grow, learn, share ideas and become fuller versions of themselves. Join us over nibbles and drinks for thoughtful conversation, introspection and laughs with some like-minded gals.
This month, the book choice is God of the Woods by Liz Moore
Content warnings: God of the Woods includes content warnings for themes of abuse, alcoholism, drug use, child death, homophobia, mental illness, sexual content, violence, and graphic injury details. The novel explores complex and disturbing psychological and emotional themes that may be unsettling for some readers.
God of the Woods by Liz Moore is a haunting novel that explores the intersections of trauma, grief, and small-town secrets. Set in a remote community, the story follows the disappearance of 13 year old Barbara Van Laar. As the investigation progresses, a web of dark truths are unravelled and the characters are forced to confront the emotional scars and fractured relationships that have shaped their lives. Through themes of family, loyalty, and the lasting impact of the past, God of the Woods examines the delicate balance between innocence and corruption, and the lengths people will go to protect those they love.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? All ages are welcome to attend. Our age ranges typically from 19 – 65. Must be 18+ to drink alcoholic beverages.
What are the conditions of the Gals Evolving Book Club?
Membership and attendance is free, but each event costs $15 to cover the cost of nibbles. Additionally, becoming a member is a monthly commitment. To become a member, attendees must:
- Attend three consecutive monthly meetings, to be held on the last Thursday of each month at a central location.
- Note: After becoming a member, attendance is required at two of every three meetings. We think it’s important for gals to consistently attend meetings in order to form close relationships with other members.
- Come to each meeting well-versed in the chosen book. Gals can “read” the book in whatever format you want, just come ready to chat about the book.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is plenty of parking but we recommend rideshare or carpool!
