HOW TO SWAP WITH THE GALS:
- Bring ONLY 1 – 7 items of clothing or accessories to add to the swap collection pool.
- The swap begins after the opening toast.
- At the end of the swap, any remaining items will be donated to Communities@Work.
- Swap clothing requirements: clean, good quality, + in good condition.
- Rule of thumb: something you’d give as a Christmas gift to your gal pal.
- Items to bring for Session A: Spring corporate-style dresses, pants, skirts, tops, shoes, bags, scarves, hats, jewellery.
- Items to bring for Session B: Spring casual dresses, pants, shorts, skirts, shoes, tops, bags, scarves, hats, jewellry.
- What NOT to bring: swimwear, underwear, pyjamas, nightwear. We have a strict, discretionary vetting process to ensure all items are high quality.
What are the community-based benefits of a clothing swap? Besides nailing some gorgeous pre-loved pieces to invigorate your wardrobe, clothes swaps are a fundamental way to curate a sustainable wardrobe. In 2017, ABC TV + iview’s War on Waste series reported that we throw out 6000 kilos of fashion textile waste to landfill every 10 minutes!
At the end of each season clothing swap, we donate all leftover items to Communities@Work: a resilient and socially inclusive community that cares for the well-being of all. More specifically, we donate corporate-style items for the ‘Care and Share’, a program which provides women in need with free clothing, shoes, and accessories for job interviews, work experience, or other special events.
Who is POP Canberra?
Workshop POP by POP Canberra is an inclusive community space, where locals can connect over creativity, knowledge and social engagement. Workshop POP hosts regular unique, fun and spontaneous workshops and events. Think hands-on crafty courses, food and beverage tastings and skill-sharing events to support you in life and business! They are dedicated to providing a place where creative leaders can share their skills; where everyone can engage with our community in more interactive and tangible ways, honouring their ethos of friends supporting friends. They exist to help you discover a new hobby, upskill, meet interesting people and contribute to a better Canberra.
Established as a pop-up shop focusing on local seasonal gifts, POP Canberra has been supporting small businesses, makers, artists, thinkers and doers since 2018. In April 2020 they embarked on a mission to bring the POP community to the people all year round and created a permanent retail space in bustling Braddon. They have just launched Workshop POP and welcome you to share in the POP Canberra community!
